SMSC School Audit / Checklist

Teacher thinking about what questions to ask in a school SMSC audit to help prepare for an Ofsted inspection
We have a new website for SMSC GridMaker which includes articles like this on our SMSC Blog.

If you're interested in conducting an SMSC audit in your primary, secondary or special school - please click through to the new website.

We focus on helping schools capture evidence of SMSC using the Grid.

However, in recent weeks (probably due to  the new Ofsted inspection framework) it's clear that many senior leaders are asking questions about the way their school promotes spiritual, moral, social and cultural values.

To assist senior leaders in this self-evaluation process we've collated the following "SMSC checklist" which could form the basis of an initial audit.

The checklist can be divided into the following areas which relate to SMSC:

  • Will the reaching of this objective enrich your school? How?
  • How are mebers of the SLT promoting this vision to teachers, parents - and the wider community?
  • Is your SMSC Policy effective, monitored or updated? (Do you have an SMSC Policy?)
  • Does your self-evaluation or improvement plan feature SMSC development?
  • Does your school website or prospectus refer to SMSC?
